Steve Kerr and the Warriors: The End of the Movie?
There comes a moment, even in the best movies, where it’s clear the story is coming to an end. Not necessarily because everything is already effectively over, but because the atmosphere has changed. For a few days now, this seems to be the Golden State Warriors script: a great story that seems to have begun its final chapter.
Because the Warriors’ run has at times been better than a movie: a saga of talent, intelligence, and dominance that has changed and shaped contemporary basketball.
For years, Steve Kerr was the perfect director of this story. He took an already strong team and transformed it into a fluid system, almost elegant in its competitive ferocity. Under him, the Warriors didn’t just win: they imposed a different way of understanding the game. They made ball movement a form of beauty, and beauty a form of victory.
Today, however, the question remains: is Kerr still the right man to lead the Warriors into the next phase? After last season, his words left every possibility open. No definitive announcement, but the clear feeling that a cycle may truly have reached its limit.
The issue, however, isn’t just Kerr. It’s what remains of those almost stainless Warriors. Steph Curry continues to be the heart of the team, but the aura around him has changed. The certainties of the past have faded, and each new season seems to be bathed in greatness but also in inconsistent rhythms.
The image, who knows, remains that of a top-tier team. The question, however, is: will the Warriors, with or without Kerr, be able to tell the same story?
Certainly, some are unrepeatable stories. But, as we say at home, glory belongs to those who dare. And the Warriors know how to dare. Time will tell.
